Today started with the perfect moonset. I watched the full moon sink slowly down beyond the distant, tree covered hills. The golden moonlight illuminated the valley-bound mist as the moon sank. As the silhouettes of trees eclipsed the golden globe, a raven's cry echoed through the valley.
As the sky lightened, the mist lost its definition, spreading outwards and upwards.

You've gotta love a day that starts this way.

Thank you. That was a beautiful collection of words. I want to close my eyes and wonder if it was crisp...breezy..still

Just read back a bit...don't believe the comments about the children. Kids in the current popular culture (ick) ARE different. How could they not be?

We can bring to these children something outside of their lives. I choose to believe that these kids need us even more than the students of our dreams. Children rise to meet expectations communicated warmly and with great regard.

You will bring a lot of magic to your students. I think they will return it! I am glad that you are choosing to teach.

Thanks, Lorelei - I appreciate your kind words.

You're right - these kids do need us more than those we would consider "ideal" students. At my current job, I am exposed to all types of students, and the struggling ones (for whatever reason they happen to be struggling), do definitely get the most out of the experience. Sometimes we get students who, for the first time, have somebody who will actually listen to them, or serve them three good meals in a day.

So many of these kids have already suffered through more hard times than I have. They need all the magic they can get!
